Wavy hair styles and curly hair styles overlap. Sometimes it's hard to know which category to place a particular hair style in.

We might call a picture wavy that you'd call curly ... or round the other way.

It's a dilemma. Like the problem you face categorizing medium length hair styles - where do you draw the line? Is it really medium length, or is it actually a longish short hair style? Or a shortish long style?

For convenience we group hair style pictures by length, so it's easier to find a picture of the hair style you're after. But there's a bit of leeway because of the overlap, and it's the same with curly and wavy.

In the end you take a pot shot. Wavy and curly hair styles are so closely related it doesn't matter if you confuse the borders. After all, that's one of the lovely things about curly and wavy hair - nothing has to be precise.

It's the random, natural, alive look of curly and wavy hair that catches eyes - it moves because it must.

Some have quite a formal feel where others are deliciously casual. Several could fit in anywhere. You could see these hair styles, long, lustrous and wavy, at work, at a party, at a Hollywood premiere, on the beach.

And each hair style could be adapted to move happily between these occasions and plenty of others.

In the world of hair, wavy styles occupy the entire middle ground. At either end are the two extremes - straight hair, and curly hair with all its variations merging seamlessly with its wavy cousin.

Everything in between curly and straight is wavy. That gives a lot of scope for women who have waves, or who are thinking of acquiring them.
