Vagina Hair...

by Leighton Campbell
(Australia)

My

My "vagina hair"

Up until I was seven years old, I always had dead-straight, dark brown hair. One day, it started to get curlier and curlier until it got to the state it is in today - extremely curly and extremely frizzy.

I have never really known how to look after my hair properly and I have never had a proper hair cut for my hair either. I suppose living in a regional town has its limits on hairdressers and their skills. I can remember going to get my hair cut when I was 10 and having the hair dresser completely freak out because of my hair being as curly as it is. One hairdresser was even daft enough to give me a side fringe!!!

Not only did I not know how to fully control my frizz, but I live in one of the most humid places in Australia. Basically, three quarters of the year in my town it's hot, sticky and humid. Not the perfect combination for already frizzy hair.

Primary school wasn't too bad for my hair. The worst I got called because of my hair was "Poodle" but people didn't really tease me much because I had a sharp tongue and would bite their head off in a second if they even attempted to tease me.

Now, being 14 and in high school, the names are a bit more creative. Names like "vagina head", "puff ball" and "spongy" have been thrown around and more and more people come up to me and inform me: "Your hair is curly" to which I reply "Oh really, thanks for the tip because, you know, after growing up with this hair for seven years, I didn't notice it!"

It just seems that I have no hope of finding the right product for me because, whenever I do find a great hair product, they stop making it so I cannot use it anymore.

The top of my hair, seems to be the drier and frizzier part of my hair than the part that is tied up in a plait each day and every leave in conditioner and hair spray on the frickin' planet seems to just make it 10 billion X drier!

Whenever (on the extreme rare occasion) that I do have my hair out with its natural curls, it just poofs out and does not frame my face at all.

I don't know if this is a sign or something to straighten my hair, so if it is, could someone (nudge, nudge GOD) please just tell me in plain english WHAT TO DO!

What You Really Need..
by: Scarlet B

Stop using shampoo. Only use conditioner and use your fingertips to massage your scalp and loosen/rinse away dirt. It's the friction that cleans your head, not the suds.

DON'T BRUSH CURLY HAIR!!! If you must, detangle in the shower with your fingers or a wide tooth comb. Once you're out, gently press the excess water out with a towel (or better yet, a cotton t-shirt - nubby towels encourage frizz). Smooth on a curl cream and let your hair air dry, no blower, no heat.

Good luck

Hope this helps

Not sure how long ago this was giving you problems as there are no dates on this page but I feel your pain. I think I have finally figured out a way to control my hair. A few easy steps, but your curls may be tighter than mine so it might have a different effect.

Firstly, after conditioning my hair and doing the final rinse I have been rinsing with water on the coldest setting in the shower. I have been told that this seals your hair follicles and adds to the shine of your hair.

Next, if you can get your hands on a good leave in conditioner spray, this will help to relax your hair. I am going to endorse Muk products. I love their curl amplifier and usually get it from Hair House warehouse or you could probably order over the net. Muk is so good for shiny glossy curls:)

If you need even more help in your humid climate, try Fudge liquid skrewd curl enhancer, especially designed for humid climates.

Let me know if this works for you.

You should use...
by: Jasmin

I know exactly what you're going through. I too have curly hair that does get frizzy. I just use 3 products:

1) L.A. Looks Absolute styling gel. [Mega mega hold.]
2) Strictly curls mousse created by Marc Anthony.
3) TRESemme styling spray curly locking [extra hold]

You can find these products at a CVS store. Nowhere fancy.

You should first take a shower just so your hair is wet and not all over the place. Use conditioner. It helps get tangles out. Pretty much any shampoo and conditioner would work.
Once you get out of the shower, start combing your hair. [No specific brush needed]

After brushing, I like to apply the gel first, then the mousse, and lastly the hairspray. If you still feel that there's a bit of frizz, just apply a bit more gel after you've applied everything else already.

Everyone simply adores and envies my hair. So give it a try (: Don't let frizzy hair take over your life.

Bringing back memories..
by: Kristin

I understand your frustration with your classmates and your hair. For the LONGEST time, I had no clue what to do with my hair. Products were just simply not designed to handle coarse, curly hair with a mind of its own, and lots of frizz.

Then I tried a spray wax one day at the suggestion of my sister. It helped with the frizz a lot, but I didn't have the definition. Eventually, I tried a slightly tougher hair wax (Just about a half teaspoon size) and that helped more.

But I FINALLY got the best curls ever when I bought Garnier's Surf Hair wax. It looks massively crazy to put in long curly hair because it wasn't designed for that, but it glues the tendrils together, in a manner of speaking, gives me the frizz control (even in humid weather) and the curl definition I've been seeking.

The other important part is to find a stylist who knows curly hair. This could be expensive, but it will be worth the money you pay. And NEVER let anyone blunt cut it. Soft layers work well. The best hair stylists for you will have curly hair themselves. They will understand.

I hope all of this helps. And remember to embrace your beautiful curls with gusto. They are your trademark!!!!

Try This
by: curly girl - LP

Hi Vagina Hair,

I see your picture and it is like we are sisters. I know exactly what you are talking about. Now let me tell you what I have done that has worked for me.

I use this shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner "Enjoy". It did wonders for my hair. I use the Luxury Conditioner and Shampoo (red one) and Conditioning Spray for leave-in conditioner. Some salons sell it but you can order it online I believe.

I tried to straighten my hair in the past. It was a bad idea - my hair is fine (texture) and can not take the strength of those straighteners. So I would suggest you don't straighten it.

However, every 6 months I use "Luminous Color Glaze - Clear Shine by john Frieda Collection". You can buy this at any drug store (Wallgreens, CVS) or online. But be very careful not to damage your hair - don't do it if your hair is dry and brittle. I only use it in the shower after the conditioner - I put it on and rinse (I do not wait the 3 minutes from the directions). Do some deep treatment 1 to 2 weeks before you try the Clear Glaze to make sure your hair is well hydrated (try the Enjoy Hair Mask). With the "Clear Shine" my curls are nice, shiny and easy to care for.

Let me know how everything worked - I would love to exchange more ideas with you. Visit my blog and send me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Here Are Some Things That Helped Me
by: Anonymous

I have extremely curly hair too.

First of all, when you wash your hair, shampoo then condition then shampoo then condition. Trust me. The first time you shampoo none of the product gets to the root of your head because of the frizz and thickness. This will help.

Next, I keep two different brands of shampoo and conditioner in my shower. You should too. Switch it up.

Next, as soon as you get out of the shower use a curl cream. Not a gel! Then light mousse, then finish with a flexible hold light mist of hair spray.

Now I do straighten my hair sometimes but honestly because of your weather I don't recommend it. I live in Jersey in the US and on the humid days in the middle of the summer I can't straighten it. It just fries and frizzes.

Oh and never ever ever use a hair brush ever again. Only combs.
