Nicole Siri's
Tips for Styling Curly Hair

Lisa's Question

Hair cuts never turn out the way I had hoped. Any advice for my thick, naturally wavy hair?

Hey Nicole,

I have thick hair depending on the time I have to spend on my hair, on an air dry hair day.

My hair is naturally wavy and blond. On a diffuser day I can make it big and curly. My hair is sort of like Sara Jessica Parker's hair - big waves take up most of your face hair.

I use both mousse and gel (not together), always some sort of product. I use conditioners so it doesn't dry out.

But I need a style. I've tried it all. Cut short I lose my curl, grown long it's curly but flat on top even if I thin it out. I tried to layer my hair but the style almost always looks like a bunch of blunt layers.

Right now I have long layers to my shoulders and it is boring. Half the time I am not sure how to get my stylist to style it the way I would like it ...

I usually am really upset after a hair cut cause it never turns out the way I had hoped.

Any advice?
Lisa

Nicole's Answer:

Dear Lisa

I love Sara Jessica Parker's hair. Lucky you!

First of all, find a stylist who can cut with you curl. This will help enhance your wave. It may also give you a little more lift at the top.

Next, cut some shorter random layers!

Most of all find a stylist who understands curly hair. There is no reason to leave the salon upset every time if your expectations are attainable.

Good luck.
Nicole
