Lauren-2's QuestionCan you help me find more options on how to style my thick, really curly hair?Hi. I'm a 16 year old girl in Fair Oaks, CA. I have really curly, thick hair. About once a month (and maybe not even that often) I straighten it, but it's so thick that it takes me at least an hour.
My hair (dry and curly) sits just above my shoulders. The ends are bad, so I need to get it cut, but I don't know how to get it cut. Also, I'm curious about "thinning" my hair, but I'm just afraid of doing something permanent to my hair that I'll regret later.
For the most part, I am happy with my curly hair. I would just like more options on how to style my hair. Any ideas and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Lauren-2
Nicole's Answer:Dear Lauren-2A new hair style sounds fun. Thankfully a hair cut will grow out and is not permanent. Make sure whatever cut you or your stylist pick will compliment your face shape.
As far as thinning your hair, I only recommend cutting with the curls, NOT thinning the hair with thinning shears. Using thinning shears on curls explodes the curl pattern and makes the curls lose their shape.
Make sure you are using a thermal heat protector on your hair when you straighten it to help control the dryness, and always use a deep treatment to replenish the moisture and protein in your curls.
