Kathy's QuestionCan you help with advice on hair length and style for an older woman with curly, frizzy hair and a round face?I am 52 years old, 30 pounds overweight (always battled that war all my life) but as you know as you get older it gets harder.
I have curly hair with frizz if I don't condition and gel it. I have had long hair most of my life, I guess because I learned at an early age how to manage long hair better than short.
My hair is medium length just touching my shoulders. (As I have grown older I thought I should wear my hair a little shorter, is this correct?) Also my hair is 3/4ths gray, but is still curly and somewhat frizzy.
I have a round fat face and would appreciate any advice on tips as to what length hair I should wear for my age and an easy on the go curly haircut with some height on top?
Thank you for your expertise. Kathy
Nicole's Answer:Dear KathyThank you for your questions! I am sure there are many women with the same concerns.
For a fuller, round face shape, shoulder length hair is good. This length is long enough to pull up, and lengthens the face by placing the weight of the hair below the chin.
This is very flattering.
In order to create a bit of height I would add some layers to the top of your head. The height will help slim down the roundness of the face, while accentuating the eye.
You expressed concern on length of hair and age. I think hair should be age appropriate. However, that does not necessarily mean all older women should have short hair.
If longer hair is more flattering to your face then I say wear it. Longer hair, to me, is shoulder length or within two or three inches past your shoulders. Hair to the middle of the back or longer, for a more mature women, is too long.
As far as having frizzy hair if you do not use gel, get on a good deep treatment schedule.
Technically, frizzy flyaway hair is empty hair. The deep treatment will fill in the bonds within the molecular layer of hair shaft and help the hair to stay down.
However, you said you are 3/4 grey. If your grey is a wiry texture it can appear frizzier. The frizz could be just the texture of your hair.
The deep treatment will help the condition of your hair but it will not change the texture of your hair.
