Nicole Siri's
Tips for Styling Curly Hair

Katherine-2's Question

I want to try a new hair style - shorter with bangs and no part in the middle. What can you tell me to help me feel better about going for it? And what style do you suggest?

Hi,

I have long naturally curly hair.

I put mousse in it every day and blow dry it in the winter with a diffuser and let it air dry in the summer.

I'm not very good with change but think that it may be time but I'm afraid to go through with it. I have layers now and I really like them but I'm thinking about going shorter. I think maybe between the chin and shoulder.

I don't want it to fall in my face all the time though and would like to keep it tucked behind the ears and still have layers. I think I'd probably want to keep it in a ponytail sometimes but maybe not that long if it looks better shorter.

I have an oval face and loose curls. The mousse tends to control the frizz nicely except on humid days.

What can you tell me to help me feel better about going for it? And what style do you suggest?

My hair is also fine but there is a lot so it doesn't look thin at all. I think I have good hair but need a new look perhaps. I am also terrified of bangs because I'm not sure what they will do. I don't want to straighten them every day but hope they won't curl weird.

I also have always had a part down the middle but think I need a change but am not sure how to do it and am afraid to. Change is hard for me but when I get used to it I usually end up liking it and am optimistic. I wish I could send you my picture.

Nicole's Answer:

Dear Katherine-2

It sounds like you have given this idea of "change" quite a bit of thought!

I think shoulder length is a good place to start, especially if you are still wanting to wear a ponytail. About the "bang" section; start long. Have your stylist cut your bang section around your lip area. The bangs might dry around your nose. It all depends on your hair's rebound factor.

I think a change in style would be a good idea! You don't have to go dramatic, just a little change. A little change is still change! Most important have fun with your curls. Let them do their thing and just embrace!

Good luck,
Nicole
