Holly's QuestionI dread getting my hair cut! What is meant by cutting into the curl? What is meant by "cutting into (or 'with') the curl"?
I have seen this phrase used in numerous articles about cutting curly hair. I would like to know what it means so I can judge if the stylist who says they know how to cut curly hair really does know.
I have short wavy-to-curly hair. After my last haircut it went flat on the top and sides, curling only at the ends. I looked like a clown!
I dread getting my hair cut! Holly
Nicole's Answer:Dear HollyWhen I speak of "cutting with the curl" I am referring to the "s pattern" shape the curl makes. Is it a tight "s" or a loose "s". I cut into the concave curve of the "s" to enhance the curls shape and to help the curl sit closer to the head. I also analyze the density and texture of the hair to determine how much hair to take out.
