Nicole Siri's
Tips for Styling Curly Hair

Donna's Question

I have too many layers in my bangs. How can I get my stylist to take off some length without adding layers in the front?

Hi Nicole.

Why do stylists never seem to give the same haircut twice?

I have been going to the same stylist for over 2 years. I can't seem to get her to understand my language (hair that is) ...

Anyway. I feel I have too many layers in my bangs. They go every which way. My hair is fine. I don't know if this makes sense, but I don't want too many layers in the front area but need length taken off. Does this make sense? Or is there something else I need to say?

I have an oval face, but have a prominent nose. I wear my hair on the side and it is cut in a shorter style.

Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you
Donna

Nicole's Answer:

Dear Donna

Yes, that makes perfect sense.

Next time you go in for a trim do not let the stylist trim the bang/layered section of your hair. Just have him/her trim the length. Have him or her clip out of the way the section of hair you do not want to cut, so they don't forget that is the "do not cut" section.

Once the layers have grown a little past the length you would like, then go and have a trim. A trim, in my book, is just the ends or 1/2 an inch, not more.

If your stylist cannot cut your hair without cutting everything I say go to someone else. You need a stylist who can think "outside the box."

Curly hair needs a creative, flexible stylist. One who will take your curl texture, density and curl shape into consideration when deciding the right hair cut for you.

Good luck,
Nicole
