Nicole Siri's
Tips for Styling Curly Hair

Casey-2's Question

I always wear braids, pony tails, and buns because my hair poofs and frizzes really badly when it starts to dry. What can I do to be able to wear my hair down?

My hair is naturally curly and it is so beautiful right when I get out of the shower. But when my hair starts to dry, it poofs and frizzes really badly. I never wear my hair down because it looks so bad.

And here's the thing, my hair isn't even thick! It just looks that way because it is so poofy.

I hate my hair and I don't know what I can do to start being able to wear my hair down because I'm getting sick of the braids, pony tails, and buns that I always wear.

Please help!
Casey-2

Nicole's Answer:

Dear Casey-2

I'm glad you like your curl. Let's start a deep treatment plan to help with the frizz/puff.

Frizzy hair is essentially empty hair. You need to fill it in with a combination of protein and moisture. Naturally curly hair is dry by nature, so getting the moisture back in the curl is a must.

I really like the Ouidad deep treatment. Follow the directions on the bottle for use. I also really like the Deva Curl "Nopoo" shampoo - this is a very moisturizing shampoo and has no sodium laurel sulfates in it.

If your hair has all the nutrients it needs it will take on its own bounce and shine and the frizz will be minimized.

Also, keep in mind what you eat, medicines you take and stress, as these can also affect your hair.

Check out some of my other Q&A on curly-hairstyles-magazine.com on styling curly hair. There you will find tips on how to use your styling product to control frizz.

Be patient. There is hope in sight.

Good Luck,
Nicole
