Ricky,

If it is true that you have had the same hair for over a decade than I can see why you are ready for change!

It sounds like you have an idea of what type of dreadlocks you want. In my opinion the whole presentation of a person determines if they look homeless or not. I have seen dreads done very well. It makes me want them too!

I think the difference between the good dreads and the bad really is how you take care of them. My uneducated guess would be the homeless looking dreads are definitely neglected!

If you have them done right and take care of them I think they can look great. I would ask your stylist what he/she thinks after they take a look at your hair.
