From the centre of her forehead, bright blonde curls spring symmetrically up and outwards before descending in a curve to intersect with the eyebrows. Those curls are there so you won't pay any attention to the real hair line. It's almost completely disguised on Detmer's right, and on the left, just in case your brain starts putting two and two together, a small, wispy but very blonde curl sneaks forward beneath the main distraction. You can barely see it. But it's enough. Curls are distributed generously round the top half of the face, crowding in to the very edge of her eyes with the express purpose of diminishing the width there, and further disguising the hair line. From there the loose curls move out, away from the lower half of Amanda's face. At the back of her neck the edges of her ponytail appear as a shadow, and her front curls stand out brightly against it. It's a subtle device to make you see more width this time, rather than less, along the line where - if you weren't so deliberately misdirected and confused - you might think her jaw was angling too sharply towards her chin.
