This is a woman who needs constant supervision. The moment nobody's watching she'll go and do something appalling with her hair.

One such episode is graphically captured in the second picture of our gallery.

Her long, thin, grin-gashed face is a gap, a bald spot really, a pale and ghostly clearing in the midst of a frightening, ballooning forest of curly hair.

Now don't blame the curly hair!

This apparition is not the fault of Sarah Jessica Parker's curly hair at all. Curly hair is wonderful, if it's looked after and treated with respect. Respect, and at least a vague idea of style.

But neither makes an appearance in this picture of Sarah Jessica Parker and her hair.

This is one Sarah Jessica Parker image that has nothing Lovely to offer.

It's like a parody of the hair style immediately below it, where Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick peer happily into each other's eyes.

It's another absurd hair style, but at least it looks planned. There's a road map. Someone has an idea of what they want this curly hair style to do.

Presumably make that long face seem shorter, and wider.

If they were hoping to recreate the young and sexy Sarah Jessica Parker who gazes innocently from beneath her red curls in the third, fading picture of our gallery, they missed the point.

By a long way.

That round, red, exuberant curly hair style works because it conceals huge slabs of Sarah Jessica Parker's face. It makes her face seem smaller, shorter, softer and rounder.

But that's the lighting, too, and the makeup, and the angle of her head. Tricks the image-makers use to turn ordinary looking women into glamorous and gorgeous celebrities whose hair, makeup, clothes, perfume and jewelry are simply to die for.

Her short curly hair in these photos often hides or reshapes her forehead. A hat does the same thing very effectively in two of the bottom row pictures.

Where her forehead is exposed they have other devices - a hand on her face, a camera angle that captures her from the side.

Sarah Jessica Parker hair styles need to reduce her forehead acreage, and hide the fact that her cheeks go nowhere but down, fast, hurtling towards that jagged chin.

In the first hat picture, at the start of the bottom row, the cheeks don't even look like they belong to Sarah Jessica Parker. Their roundness really doesn't seem possible, when you look at other photos.

But would they really fake Sarah Jessica Parker's face completely?

Only if it was important. Like selling something.

You get a more realistic view of Sarah Jessica Parker in the photos that find her, and her hair, out and about.

Like the picture at the start of the middle row. Here she's not beautiful, but she's not ugly or ridiculous either. Just a strong-faced woman with an ill-chosen style of short curly hair.

Or the second last picture in the gallery - the same hair style and the same sad, almost wistful expression on her face.
