Me and my curls :)
I've always had curly red hair, but as I went on in elementary and middle school I never really embraced it; I blow-dried and brushed it which made it only a little wavy, not to mention the dreaded hour-long straightening missions I'd attempt.
Starting a year and a half ago, though, I grabbed the mousse in my medicine cabinet and scrunched my wet hair up, then it turned almost instantly into these tight ringlets which made my hair exciting and voluminous.
I've since switched to an organic brand of shampoo (which is awesome!!), conditioner, and mousse (all from the same company, LiveClean) and have found the products to smooth out my frizz without weighing down my curls. In fact it feels like there's no product at all in my hair even though it's been de-frizzed and styled with mousse!
My routine: shampoo (not overload though, just enough!), condition (slightly less or the same amount as the shampoo), remove excess water with a towel, comb with a wide-toothed comb, put one pump of mousse in my hands, rub it around and spread throughout my hair, then comb it through, flip my head over (helps with volume and curl separation!), shake my hair around and squeeze clumps with my hands, then flip my hair back to regular position (more gently so I don't ruin the curls!) and squeeze and style the curls with my fingers to create a textured but even look.
If I want to have a part in my hair I usually skip the flipping, but if I'm using a headband or just letting it go on its own, flipping adds a lot of great volume. I love having layers in my hair, too, because it adds volume, and my curls lie one atop the other, creating a flowing effect. I also have long side bangs which help the curls frame my face, and since they're shorter pieces of hair they seem to curl better!
Healthy, moisturized and happy curls :)
