But when you look closely, you begin to understand why lovers of beauty are so fascinated by long curly hair.
It's the stuff of dreams and fantasy.
Long curly hair couldn't be more suited to seduction if it had been purpose designed for the task. Not only does a long curly hair cut catch eyes, it holds them, locking on like a tractor beam and reeling in its helpless victims.
But don't worry.
It doesn't have to be like that.
A long curly hair cut can be young and innocent and smiling, all t-shirts and denim and thumbs in belt-hooks, not a care in the world.
Or it might be a deluge of sun bleached curls that tumble brilliantly as you throw back your head and look at the sky.
Or you might use your long curly hair cut in a way that's actually still very seductive but ... innocently so.
Unconsciously.
When, at the beach, for instance, your long curly hair cascades down your shoulders and back, drawing hot gazes and looks of admiration even as you lie there wondering which pile of sand your book is buried under.

Of course, even if your curly hair has been cut long, you won't necessarily leave it vertical all the time. An east-west look can be stunning with long curly hair.
Having a layered cut will encourage that horizontal sort of shape. Strangely enough, the direction can be enhanced by making one curl shorter underneath another. The strength of the short curl supports the longer one above it, holding it up and letting it grow more to the side.
You could have a mass of corkscrew curls cut and encouraged that way, stretched out like a canopy over your head and covered in butterflies (the butterflies are optional).
Or for high drama, try a wild dark afro style of curly hair and a long, curve-hugging gown in vivid, rich, pure, uncompromising fire-engine red.
You won't slip out of the room unnoticed in that! And the moment you walk in, of course, you'll cut the conversation dead. All you'll hear is the soft buzz of a tractor beam starting up.
And then there's the classic black and white movie style, all shadows and drama, and as the camera cuts to a tense face you see long curly hair surrounding beautiful eyes.
It's hard to go grey scale in real life, of course, but a couple of monotone pictures do give a hint about those classic movie-makers. Like why they adored long waves and thick rivers of curls framing the faces of their leading ladies.
It was a question of intoxicating beauty. That's all.
