Emily and I
It's taken me almost 40 years to learn to live with my hair.
Before that I had a mother who'd straighten it and hairdressers who straightened it, with many, many gallons of anti-frizz products inbetween.
Now I'm 41 with a 9 month old who loves my hair. She strokes it gently and has been known to chug down a mouthful when I'm not looking. I'll take hair filled with baby gob any day for this kind of adoration.
Oh, and my husband adores my curls even though I had them blow-dried straight on our wedding day almost 5 years ago. Our daughter has inherited his soft curls (lucky for her - I wouldn't want her hating me as a frizzy-haired teen).
So even though it drives me nuts in misty weather and stands up around my head like a mini 'fro sometimes, the love-hate relationship with my hair is always bittersweet, and never boring. I can always wear a hat or a headscarf if I want to hide. People say I'm lucky to have naturals curls and to be able to have it blow-dried straight.
So to all those frizzballs out there - curls can be sexy too. You just need the right attitude!
