You see a woman whose forehead and chin taper symmetrically till they reflect each other's narrow, pointy shape.
The mouth is small, and where the face widens in the middle, the eyes are too close together.
Jennifer Aniston's casual curly updo hides nothing, even accentuates the flaws.
It's no accident that the famous hairdo that launched this woman into hairstyle superstardom concealed most of her features.
Jennifer Aniston has a diamond-shaped face.
It's not ugly. It's not even plain.
It's just not beautiful.
Jennifer Aniston has to be careful with all her hair styles, because her claim on the world of glamour rests so heavily upon the dissembling power of her hair.
That hair style in the bottom row is an excellent example of what can happen when she's careless.
It's a genuinely casual Jennifer Aniston curly updo. The sort she'd wear on the weekend, when she's not planning to be photographed.
And it doesn't photograph well.
Jennifer Aniston Curly Updo - Hollywood Casual
Compare that genuine look with the second picture in the top row and the first in the middle row, which show a Hollywood-style casual curly updo from The Good Girl.On the face of it there's nothing outstanding about this new Jennifer Aniston curly updo.
But that's the point - the face is very different.
The Hollywood image magicians have subtly altered the shape of Jennifer Aniston's forehead, by drawing her hair across at a much shallower angle.
They've highlighted it, too, so what you notice is the side reaching hair and not the darker, tapering line beneath.
Then they've filmed her at an angle that draws a gentle curve down the far side of her face and blurs completely the boundaries on the near side.
She's still not beautiful. But she looks pretty cute.
There's a different take on The Good Girl's casual updo at the end of the middle row.
Jennifer Aniston Curly Updo - Studio Style
Two pictures in the gallery are studio shots - the first and last photos in the top row. They show virtually the same curly updo.You see the effect more clearly in the first, and the detail more clearly in the second.
What these pictures bring to a Jennifer Aniston curly updo is volume.
The top is cut off in both pictures, but you can see how Jennifer Aniston's hair is teased up and outwards from the forehead.
Again, a liberal use of highlights misdirects your eye, and her tapering hair is lightened to blur and disguise the true line of her forehead.
And all that volume?
It makes you think her features widen above the eyes. And that, in tandem with her tapering chin, portrays her as oval-faced.
Which of course she isn't.
It's just a clever Jennifer Aniston curly updo.
Jennifer Aniston Curly Updo - Red Carpet
The first picture in the bottom row captures Jennifer Aniston arriving at an event. She wears a formal curly updo with floral decorations.Loose curls dangle by her face, and one long strand in particular travels deliberately and distractingly down from the middle of her forehead, touching one eye and crossing her cheek.
It's a different curly updo altogether, but it uses the same techniques that worked so well in the studio - highlighting, volume and misdirection.
Like any decent Jennifer Aniston curly updo, this one needs all the tricks it can muster.
Jennifer Aniston Curly Updo - Casual Updos
Jennifer Aniston uses these same tricks, more or less, when she and her curly updos go casual.In real life, I mean.
Of the seven real life casual curly updos pictured here, it's really only that first one we discussed, in the middle of the bottom row, that lays open her true face shape for all to see.
The curly updo in the fourth picture of the top row, mind you, doesn't do a very good job of rounding Jennifer Aniston's hair line.
But the next picture down addresses that task much more effectively, and the same hair style has a beautiful shape from the side, as you see it in the last picture of the gallery.
Jennifer Aniston Curly Updo - Updos in Profile
In profile Jennifer Aniston has a strong and attractive face. But her hair line presents just as much of a problem from the side as it does from the front.Two of our photos, in the middle of the first and second rows, show Jennifer Aniston exactly in profile.
Both are screen shots.
One shows a Hollywood formal updo, the other a Hollywood bath updo. In their fictional context these hair styles are opposites - one public, one private.
But the same selective highlighting works on both, disguising the problem hair line.
