I Need a Style for Short, Naturally Curly, Thick and Coarse Hair

I am so frustrated. There seems to be no-one (or no pictures) of someone with short, naturally curly, thick and coarse hair, except me.

I have had the same basic style for years (and I am 48 yrs old). I can't grow it long as it only grows "out" not down.

I guess I am stuck for the rest of my life with this problem, or am I?
