When I was younger I would stand in front of the mirror, look at my hair and cry my eyes out. I had a twin sister and she had the straight hair that I wanted. It just wasn't fair.
So I did everything in my power not to have curly hair. I would blow dry it and use a flat iron every day just so it would be straight.
It didn't stay that way long of course. By noon I would be nothing more than a walking, talking ball of brown frizz! The styling tools were doing more harm than good to my hair as well. I started getting a lot of breakage and split ends.
I finally gave up. I was fighting a losing battle. So I just left it alone and let it do its own thing.
Right away I started getting compliments left and right about my long natural curls. Everyone loved it. Pretty soon ... I did too!
