For years I fought the battle with hair maintenance.
Being the only "curly sue" in my family, my early years were spent hiding my curls by pinning, pulling, wrapping, stuffing, covering, and at one point, a horrid trip to a salon resulting in a mullet!
By the age of 13, after a seemingly overnight stint with puberty, my soft curls became tight and tangled corkscrews! The devestation!!!
Now, at (gasp!) 30, I have finally made peace with my follicles. We understand each other. I know my personal frizz-factors and daily prepare my purse contents for any rain, heat, or dryness forcast. Condition, condition, condition!
I now keep my curls free and natural. I embrace my uniqueness, not only from my family, but much of the world, and have retired my hat and scrunchie collection. Liberation!
My honey now calls me his greek goddess while tangling his fingers in my hair. How could I have ever hated it?! :)
