I have the same problem. My hair is long, thick, and wavy. So what I usually do is flat iron it, but since it's long it takes forever.
So I'm going to cut my hair up to my shoulders, and get long layers. It will be a lot easier to manage your hair if it's up to your shoulders and if you get layers. If you cut long layers in the back you will get more hair taken off so you won't have as much hair which makes it easier to manage.

Have it thinned and layered so it's not as thick, therefore more manageable. If that doesn't work tie it up in a simple ponytail for everyday and only spend an hour on it if you're going out somewhere special. If not, you could maybe have it cut to a short, manageable, fashionable style.
