There's no exclusive hairstyle for dreadlocks, just as there's no single, definitive curly hair style.
Dreadlocks can be long, short, or any length in between.
And anyone can wear them!
Dreads are not restricted to a particular hair type or color, nor do do they belong to any one ethnic group or culture. Dreadlocks date back thousands of years in Africa, but they've appeared independently in different cultures and in other parts of the world, from the Indian subcontinent to the British Isles.
Of course their modern popularity can be traced directly to Jamaica's Rastafarians, but dreadlocks have become a world hairstyle, instantly recognisable among nature worshippers, provocative fashionistas, and lots of individuals who just think dreadlocks are cool.
The models in our gallery come from European, African and mixed heritage backgrounds. Some have black hair while others are blonde, but they all have beautiful dreadlock hairstyles.
