Curly wedding hair. It conjures up images of long curly hair coiled into an elegant updo and crowned with tiara and veil.
It can be like that.
But it doesn't have to be, as the twelve styles and fifteen pictures in this wedding hair photo gallery clearly demonstrate.
For one thing, up styles are not just for long hair.
An updo for short or medium length hair, like the one shown in the second picture of our gallery, can be really gorgeous.
Here the hair is gathered in elegant braids at the back while, in classic curly updo style, strands have been left loose to frame the bride's face. Everywhere in this wedding hair style, the natural curly texture of the bride's hair is preserved, celebrated and shown off.
Curly wedding hair can also mean a short, naturally wavy hair style like the last picture in this gallery. Needing no adornment, this bridal hair style simple, beautiful and elegant, all at the same time.
Long Curly Wedding Hair - Down Styles
Two long but very different curly wedding hair down styles can be found in the third picture of the top row, and the last picture of the middle row.
The middle row picture could easily be mistaken for a street style were it not for the inclusion of a bridal veil. In either setting it's a beautiful hair style.
The top row picture is a much more formal and traditional wedding hair style, swept up and back with a tiara encircling the line where the hair is raised.
One bride has three pictures here.
Photo one in the last row of the gallery is a formal bridal photograph, posed, poised and dutifully smiling. The curls in this woman's long dark hair are dazzling as they effortlessly link the textures of veil, skin and wedding dress. The tiara stands solemnly at the top.
But curly wedding hair can be fun as well as formal, and in the very next picture we find the same bride in a much more casual moment. The smile is genuine this time, caught by the camera but not created for it.
The long, dark, curly wedding hair has also changed its mood, swept back behind the shoulders but still, with a couple of forward strands, framing the bride's undeniably happy face.
She looks so relaxed, in fact, that if it weren't for the veil, the gown and the long white gloves that reach past her elbows, you'd think she was a teenager at a party, or out with friends. Even the tiara has retreated from prominence, and looks more like part of the building structure behind the bride, rather than the pinnacle of a natural, stunning curly wedding hair style.
Can you see the third picture of this happy, long haired bride?
Traditional Curly Wedding Hair Updos
The redhead who begins the middle row of the gallery wears a traditional and very beautiful wedding updo for curly hair, complete with tiny flowers. A number of elegantly curled strands have been left loose on the side, and another trails down her neck at the back.
The second last picture in the gallery shows another classic bridal updo, with a veil that's become largely symbolic, tucked safely behind so that everyone can appreciate the full beauty of the bride's curly wedding hair.
A single, sensuous strand of hair lures the eye away from the tiara and the crown of curls, down past the dark eyes with their arched brows and inevitably on towards the lips before twisting away suddenly ... and then returning, tentatively.
That one, deliberate strand of hair is almost a metaphor for courtship and seduction.
A similarly classic example of curly hair for brides can be found in the fourth picture of the top row of the gallery. A curly updo, it makes full use of the loose curls that mark this style - two rather more towards the back than is usual, and a cute strand twisting over the forehead on one side. A tiara gathers in the tower of curls that stands atop this traditional bridal hair do.
Half Up Half Down Curly Wedding Hair
While curly wedding hair can be either up or down, it can sometimes be a bit of both.
The middle picture in the last row of the gallery shows one of these half up half down wedding hair styles.
From the back you can see that the bridal hair has been partly gathered in a bun formed from a pair of braids on either side of the head. A trio of white flowers crowns this pretty and elegant little bun while beneath it, the full length of the bride's curly hair tumbles down her back.
You can't question the beauty of this style, or its perfect match with the wedding gown of choice.
The photo above this one shows the same style from the front, with the hair brought forward onto the shoulders.
Two different kinds of half up half down wedding hair styles are pictured in the top row of the gallery, in the first and last photos.
The first is a virtual ponytail, but this curly wedding hair has been raised above the hair line to give volume and lifted again at the back, before tumbling down behind the neck. A halo of flowers marks the line where the hair is gathered for the ponytail, and where the half up half down sections meet.
The most beautiful feature of any curly hair updo is the loose strands that frame the face. In this bridal style that feature is muted, but not forgotten.
The last picture in the top row is very different, though the hair style uses the same half up half down approach.
Here the hair is raised even more noticeably at the front before being lifted a second time at the crown of the head. From there, in a diminishing cascade of curls, it runs down the length of the bride's neck to the level of her shoulders.
Much more prominent this time are the curls beside the cheeks. Again the line is marked where the hair rises, but with jewelry rather than flowers.
The second picture in the middle row of the gallery shows yet another half up half down curly wedding hair style.
This bride is viewed from the front, but the hair that's raised in coils at the crown of her head is clearly visible, like the long curly hair that tumbles down behind her neck and shoulders.
Two long strands of her curly wedding hair have been brought to the front.
