I have hated my curly hair for as long as I can remember.
It made me feel ... obtuse. Strange. Less feminine than the girls out there with straight, glossy, bodiless and therefore frizzless hair. This is important to me because I am part Okinawan and all my Asian family has straight hair.
I'm blessed with my Mama's Italian hair.
Then I learned about the "Curly Girl" method of taking care of hair.
and I learned to take better care of my hair.
And one day I decided that I wanted to be able to wear different cuts and have the versatility and convenience of straight hair ...
PERMANENTLY Straight Hair.
I had my hair chemically reconditioned and although it didn't damage my hair as much as people said it would, I think that is due to my hair stylist who knows what she is doing.
However, my current boyfriend saw old pictures and videos of me with my curly mess and he was SHOCKED.
He told me "YOU had shakira hair!!!! It's so beautiful!"
Now my hair is growing in and it looks messy and unwashed because the roots are the only thing that are curly. BUT I now have a new appreciation of my hair. Now I have come to terms with the fact that I will always have my crazy Mediterranean hair. And Asian hair, although it suits me, will have to kiss this head sayonara because V am never doing that again!
