I have the same hair which is something that always annoyed me. The problem is that I am a guy and I really need to keep my hair long. Anything you recommend ?

Christina, you are a very pretty girl and your hair is amazing. I have tight curls and few ringlets ... and I have very frizzy and puffy hair. What do you recommend as a straightener that won't damage?

Curly Perm or Not?? by: Nicole
Hi Christina.
First off I just want tell you how beautiful you are, and your hair.
My problem is I used to have really curly hair but now, for some reason, my hair isn't as full as it used to be and my curl isn't really defined any more. My hair is maybe 3 inches past my shoulders and I absolutely love curly hair, but I can't wear my hair curly now.
I was wondering, what do you recommend? I was talking to a friend and they said a curly perm would give my curls more definition. I'm really considering doing it. What do you think?

Omg, Christina ... this is weird, but you look just like me! Well at least in this picture. I showed my family and they couldn't believe it wasn't me!! I have curly hair too, I had it long like yours, but I cut it all off and started straightening it. Now the top layer of my curls looks crappy. I miss my old hair. Advice: never ever straighten your hair continuously. :)

PS Weronika (Christina) by: Christina
Hi Weronika
I find lots of people say the water changes hair.
The reason why you get better waves in the lake could possibly be due to its salt content.
Hair companies have found out about this and use sea salt in many of their beach babe surfing marketed products.
Lush Do - a hair product with lots of sea salt in it ... I'm yet to buy/try ... but will update on the results once it's been tested.

Sarah D : Yes, my hair is very thick ... therefore having to use GHD straighteners on it!!
And for the person who asked about avoiding a puffy cut ... don't get tooo many short layers, and avoid layers at the back/graduated ''Pob'' cuts!
PS: Just cut it to about boob length lool ... muchhhhhh healthier and
Product update: 'Aussie' branded products like their deep treatments are a godsend!

Is your hair thick?? Can you straighten it? My hair is a lot like yours, except it doesn't fall as long (even though it is about that long when I pull it). It's just VERY VERY thick, and I want to straighten it. What straightener do you use??!!?!?!!?!?!?!?

What kind of cut do you recommend for curly hair? by: EJ
Hi Christina,
I love your hair and I am glad to see there are lots of responses from people who have hair like we do. I have challenges getting a good hair cut as many don't know how to handle curly hair. Any suggestions on the best type of cut to avoid frizz and puffy looks?
Cheers,
EJ

You're beautiful Christina! And you've got marvelous hair. I'm blond and not so curly curly curly as you are ;) but I've discovered one crucial thing! When I use only shampoo and conditioner my hair gets the most beautiful waves. Really! Especially after L'Oreal Elseve for volume and Gliss Kur for straightening (!!!). I've used before Nivea's mousse for curls, Pantene Pro-V mousse for curls, Taft (the best so far...), and also green Garnier mousse like you (unfortunately, it wasn't very satisfactory for me).
But I have to admit that, in my case a lot of depends on water, really. When I was washing my hair in a lake during my holidays, every time I got the most amazing waves... :P
PS. If you noticed any mistakes - forgive me, I'm not English-speaking person ;))

My Hair Looks Just Like Yours by: stephanie
I never use hair dryers because the water in the hair will get hot causing the hair to be dry and brittle. I just use olive oil shampoo and conditioner or even baby shampoo. I use 100% aloe vera gel in my hair to keep it in place.
Only wash your hair three times a week unless you have to wash it more often.
Whenever I don't wear it down I use 100% extra virgin alive oil in my hair and yes, it is the oil you get in a cooking store or wherever lol! Olive oil has a healing substance that makes the hair grow and become stronger as you keep using it.
Aloe vera gel helps protect hair from the heat damage of the sun and keeps it from frizzing, and style-wise you can't tell the difference between hair gel and aloe vera gel.

Your questions answered by me! by: Christina
1. WHICH Garnier mousse do you use - it's a green packaging and it's specifically used for curls, though the volumising one is also good. Just check out the labels tbh.
2. What serum do you use? Do you put it in before or after mousse? I put this in before the mousse to calm it down before the mousse sets the curls.
3. If you don't towel dry it how do you dry it? Hair dryer with diffuser? Or plain air?: Plain air - best thing! Though I've been told off for leaving puddles of water everywhere loool!
4. Do you think hot/cold water makes more defined curls?: warm!
5. Should I be using spray, if I find it holds in style of curls well? ... I don't but if it does then I guess so. Gel sprays/hairspray can be very drying and leave residue in hair so make sure you wash it out properly to get the best out of your curls.
6. Is the orange extroverty mousse available in Australia? Do you recommend it for hair that is already voluminous?. Um I'm not too sure to be honest. I'm from the UK ... though if Shockwaves is available in aus then I should think so?
Re: wedding: get it trimmed so you're left with really healthy hair ... I know this is a pro-curl site. But on formal occasions I sometimes either do my normal routine for natural curls orrr ... tong/straighten it. Just make sure if you do the latter you have hairspray and heat defence products.
Good luck and congrats!
Do you wear headbands? - I do ... but I try to limit wearing them as much as possible - and don't you dare wear them when your hair is still wet!

Also have a wedding coming up. How do I style my hair? It's below my shoulders quite a bit.
Do you wear headbands?

Hi,
in my opinion what's worked best is a moisturising conditioner or one for dry/damaged hair.
The grease seems fine!.... but bear in mind this is coming from a girl who doesn't use grease!

But does it matter what kind of conditioner I am using? And also, do I use greese to make it lie down and look smooth rather than drying out like bush?

Hi again ... your questions answered! by: Christina
Step by step guide to prevent dry and frizzy hair
1) Use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Try to avoid shampoos with preservatives and parabens which disrupt hormone growth in rats ... my best bet is Lush! <3 ... the only thing with their solid shampoos is that they don't lather properly.
2) Use a detangling conditioner and comb through while still soaking wet ...
3) DO NOT I repeat DO NOT!!! ... towel dry hair ... grrr I hate when hairdressers wring my hair!
4) Use a good serum SPARINGLY in between washes, do not touch gel and please use mousse responsibly - it dries the hair out!
5) DO NOT USE A BRUSH - this causes frizz! ... use a wide tooth comb ... veryyyy wide tooth!
6) If you don't have mousse/styling products, you can leave some conditioner in your hair. Also, do not wash your hair till it's squeaky clean - this will strip the hair of its natural oils - the oils that can make hair curl.
7) Limit combing your hair when it is dry - damages the structure!
8) If you need to straighten or go out in the sun, protect your hair with heat defence products!
9) Try not to colour hair - lemon juice in the sun is a natural alternative. It makes blonde hair more vibrant and gives brown hair an auburn tinge!
10) Olive oil and egg cold rinse ... seriously! Olive oil makes hair stronger and the amino acids in egg are amazing ... make sure it's cold rinse ... no one wants scrambled egg in their hair!

Answering your questions by: Christina
Hey, Yasmine. I'd say maybe try some mousse-like products like a root boosting one or products which promote volume.
I too find getting good partings awkward ... I had the down the middle parting!
Um ... I mean you could get more layers put in ... this could prevent the top flatness as maybe the bottom curls are too heavy?. You can get the layers strategically placed too if you don't like your ears. I don't like my chin - the bone structure sweeps too low - so I'm getting a cut to suit this.
PS: thanks, I'm sure you are too :)
BTW ... for those who know of lush
the hair doctor is aammaaaaaazzinngggggggggg!!!
Smells like Vicks and yuckiness but leave in overnight and kapow!

I love your hair and would die for it. I am soo annoyed with mine because I seem to be having trouble all the time it.
It's curly, really curly on the ends but on top it's wavy and looks horrible. I can never find a good parting or style for it and don't like tying it up because I hate my ears.
Is there any way to make it that curly on top as I find after washing? If I don't leave my hair in some kind of way or parting I'll have a bad hair day when it dries :( What shampoo or conditioner do you use Christina?
PS: You're beautiful :) x

Dry naturally!. Do not use hairdryers or even a towel. Tbh I sometimes go out with my hair wet.
lilr0ck3r101 ? there are oils you can get. I think the black community uses castor oil to treat hair loss, so I think that should do the trick for growth?
Anonymous - I'm half greek half Mauritian, but I live in England. Total opposite climate to your dry heat weather conditions. Make sure you use a UV spray to protect your hair. It's not just the skin that needs protecting.

Srsly ... your hair is EXACTLY how my hair SOMETIMES looks when it's that long. What are you mixed with?
My challenge is that I live in dry heat and whenever I do any high activity where my head sweats it just gets so frizzy and gross. How do you combat that?
It got so bad for a while because I didn't know how to manage all the curls that I ended up cutting my hair REALLY short. I grew it out long enough and started dreadlocks. Now I LOVE having dreadlocks but it's been a few years and I'm ready for a change to go back to my natural latina curls.
Of course I'll have to go through the agony of short short hair again. Have you had your hair short before? And if so do you have any pictures you could post?
Oh and you are ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! That gives me a lot of encouragement to face my curls again.

Hair Update :) by: Christina
Going for a trim on Tuesday. Wish me luck. It's just below the bustline and I'm hoping to cut about 4 inches off (that is when the hair is pulled out of its curl and cut).
Yesterday I used:
Original Source Almond and Coconut Shampoo Tresemme salon silk conditioner and then as always Garnier Fructis Curly Mousse.
Most of the time I shampoo as regularly as the next girl does, whatever hair they have, but I must get out of the naughty habit of conditioning and leaving in conditioner regularly *slaps wrist*
Hmm , what else?
Oh yes, girls, diet is verrryyy important with hair! Eat things rich in omega 3 oils like fish and nuts and eggs and your hair will improve :)
Oh oh oh ... I need help with this new cut ... Any ideas!

I have tried sooooo many products on my hair and nothing seems to work. I cannot find a good leave in conditioner, and I find that if I use alcohol-free gel my hair is even frizzier!!!!
I noticed that you mentioned using mousse. I have never tried mousse before, so maybe I will now to see how it turns out.
Wish me luck! LOL

I use ...
Tresemme color shampoo conditioner to make the natural colour more vibrant (I don't know if you guys have this brand in the US). Girls, it's okay to leave in a bit of the conditioner (makes it less bushy) ... But don't do it all the time.
In between those times, make up natural hair repair treatments like avocado mush, with egg, olive oil etc ... Cold rinse, girls ... You don't want scrambled egg in your hair!
And then Garnier mousse for curls!
And those times in winter when it's just too much effort, my secret is to wear a cute hat lmao
Remember ... That trim every 6 weeks!

hey guys! by: Christina
Sorry for the late reply girlies.
My secret is ... nothing really, just making sure it's cut regularly by a stylist I know quite well. She also has curly hair so even though it's a little pricey I know she isn't going to prize the knots about lol!
Use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner as it does get frizzy.
Um, I would recommend leaving a little conditioner in your hair but don't do this regularly cos it causes build up and then the curls will suffocate.
I always finish with mousse, which is either Shockwaves (the bright orange extrovert one) or Garnier Fructis. Do not use cheap mousse garrrr!!!
Believe it or not, I've actually cut my hair to about my shoulders now; regret the style slightly but it feels healthier I guess.
I'm overdue for a trim as well :|

I have hair exactly like yours and I've tried every product known to man.
Usually I would finish a bottle of mousse a week but then I discovered Cat Walk Curls Rock. It's a cream that smells like watermelon and it does wonders for your hair! Just 2-3 pumps and then put it in damp hair. When it dries, your hair will be awesome and there is no need to put anything else in your hair.
The trick to having beautiful curly hair is to let it dry naturally! Stay away from the blowdyer!!!

I have thick curly hair and it dries out a lot. I use a lot of conditioner and only wash my hair every other day, but condition every day. I am tying to grow out my hair, but there are days when I want to cut it all off.
How can I get my curls to look beautiful like yours? The length of my hair is just before the shoulders.
