You won't find better curly celebrity long hair styles than those of Broadway singer Bernadette Peters and Italian actress Valeria Golino.

Celebrity Long Hair Styles - Amy Brenneman

Beside Peters in this celebrity long hair styles gallery is actress Amy Brenneman, equally curly but with much longer hair. By sheer force of gravity, by the weight of curls pulling downwards, her celebrity long hair style adopts a completely different profile from those of Bernadette Peters and Valeria Golino.

Brenneman's has far less volume and less outward movement.

Whether it suits her is another issue. This vertical, cheeks-hugging style makes her face look very long. A better long hair style for this celebrity is in the second picture on the bottom row - less length, more volume, more facial width at the cheeks.

Celebrity Long Hair Styles and Photography

Having the right lighting, and an understanding of face shape, are crucial elements in making great pictures of celebrity long hair styles.

As an example, see the top row black and white image of Geena Davis. The line of her cheek is lost completely on the right so the eye naturally follows the profile of the frizzy, curly hair that rounds out and extends the upper part of her face. Her chin is hidden by her hand, shortening the lower part of her face, and her long hair plunges out of sight behind her neck - she doesn't need any suggestion of extra width at the cheeks.

Similar tactics are at play in the photo of Elizabeth Shue. See her magnificent curly, red, flying tresses in the middle photo of the bottom row. The square line of Shue's jaw is nicely obscured by bright light on the left, balancing the carefully placed curl that rounds the edge of her forehead on the right.

Actress Moira Kelly has two long hair styles here.

In both her long hair styles she boldly bares the forehead which, in her short hair styles, is virtually concealed.

In the first picture on the bottom row, Moira affects a symmetrical sweep of hair that continues from a centre part down along her cheeks. The result is a very rounded look to her forehead, but the face seems too long, and her chin is too pointy, to create a classically oval shape.

Her second picture, last in the middle row, uses a different approach completely. Her forehead is clear, the hair line is straight along the top, and Moira relies on camera angle to enhance the structure of her face.

On the near side her long hair creates a tapering curve upwards from the cheek.

That illusion is complemented on the far side, where the part profile view of her cheek and forehead creates a rounded look. The shadow beneath her jaw, the blurring lines of curls beyond her face, all add their bit to the oval illusion.

Moira Kelly is far more interesting in this photo than in her picture on the bottom row.

As with the pictures of Elizabeth Shue and Geena Davis, this is a very successful example of face shape and hair style knowledge, photography and lighting, all coming together to create celebrity long hair styles that only exist as images.

In the process, the fairy tale of celebrity beauty gathers strength.
