Blonde and Curly Haircut Story
by Naomi
I didn't really have much hair to speak of until I was about 3 or 4 but it grew in as beautiful golden blonde curls that bunched up around the back of my head.
As I got older my hair stayed blonde and curly and I remember my mom struggling after bath time with what she called my "Rat's Nest". It always hurt when she brushed my hair because the comb would get stuck and matted in the curls and my mom would get frustrated and impatient.
By the time I was in grade 4 my hair drove me crazy. I was so envious of the girls with straight, smooth hair, while mine was a frizzy, chaotic mess that seemed like an entity all its own.
In junior high I dyed my hair all kinds of colors in a failed attempt to somehow transform my hair and seemingly myself.
In high school I finally got a straight iron and brushed and straightened my hair into obedience almost every day.
There were many days (and nights) when I cried with anger and frustration at my curly hair. It wasn't until about a year ago, when my roommate at the time (who also has beautiful curly hair) encouraged me to love my curls and showed me how to get it cut properly and care for them properly, that things changed.
After about a month my curls were fuller and curlier with much less frizz. I finally started to really enjoy having curly hair. Now, I wouldn't dream of trading it for straight hair.
