Mousse

Try applying hair mousse instead of gel. Gel makes your hair scrunchy and crunchy, but mousse defines your hair and does not make your hair hard with frizz everywhere.

Gel

Well, when I use gel I make sure I put it on when my hair is wet. It's also nice if my hair is well conditioned. I usually will rub the gel all over my hands and then run my fingers through my hair. I don't run my fingers through too much though. If there is still any frizzy hair I brush that strand of hair to make it curl.

The best shampoo and conditioner I have ever used was Burt's Bees. After I used that I didn't even have to apply so much gel and my curls were very well defined.
