Curly hair styles can be your best accessory - healthy, versatile, great-looking and easy to manage.

There are just two ingredients you need to ensure at the very outset - the right hair cut, and the type of care that your curly hair really, really needs to retain its style.

Curly hair is completely different from straight hair. Its structure is different and its needs are different.

Curly hair demands a different approach.

It begs for understanding.

And curly hair is very forgiving. Maybe you've abused it all these years, trying to mould it into styles it was never meant to resemble.

But the moment you decide to meet your curly hair half way, it rewards you with head-turning, breath-taking, beautiful hair styles.

You can't cut your own curly hair.

It's not recommended, anyway.

But you can certainly choose who does cut your hair, and the choice you make is the key to your future success with curly hair styles.

A stylist who understands and respects your curls, and who also knows how to cut your hair in ways that flatter your face, is like gold.

Find a stylist who can handle curly hair and you're half way home.

That's the first ingredient.

The second ingredient for beautiful curly hair styles is well within your control, and that's the way you look after your curly hair.

That doesn't mean you have to adopt some onerous routine, either, like brushing your hair a hundred times every night. Don't brush! It's fatal for curly hair! And don't comb it either. Throw all that stuff away!

Taking care of your curly hair is more a matter of lifestyle and understanding.

It's no harder to maintain curly hair than it is to manage other hair types. In fact, once you get your curly hair right it can actually be much, much easier.

This is my natural hair, no color and most definitely not permed!! This is my natural curl. All my life I tried to make it straight. But in the last 10 years I have let it go its own way and in the last 3 let it start to grow. This is the longest it has ever been.

Nice to find some people who understand curly hair! I swear by Sof'n'Free in the morning then for an extra boost later, Bed Head Serum. It's expensive but WELL worth it!

I'm originally from Northern Virginia. I moved to Monterey, CA after getting married last February. My husband is stationed here for a year, because he is in the Air Force. My hair used to be very long and instantly turned into a frizzy mess when I hit puberty. I didn't know what to do with it and neither did my mother. She would buy straightening products from the drug store but they would never work. I would cry for hours because it wasn't straight like everyone elses. In college I chopped it off to my shoulders, and ironed it straight for several years. I went back to curly a year ago ... my stylist told me I should just try it. After I found the right products, I found that I save time blowing it dry in the morning :-) I use Redkin Ringlet and Alterna Texturizing Balm.

Hi I'm Clare from the UK. I've attached a few photos of my naturally curly locks for you to see. I have two colours of blonde highlighted in my hair but that is all - the colour with the curls brings more interest and depth I think... also looks very funky! My big tips are - leave your hair to dry naturally and use sirum on the ends! Looks great come rain or shine...

My name's Dusty, and I'm a High School Teacher from Texas. :o) I have super curly hair (most days), and I've learned that Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine works WONDERS on my hair & keeping it from frizzing ... Plus the Garnier Curl Shaper (it's not gel ... not sure what it is, but it's a ball-shape & has a dark green lid), and curl shapening Hair Spray Gel ... I comb my hair out while wet, towel dry, comb it again ... then flip my hair a couple of times (head banging came in handy for SOMEthing!) ... and while my hair's flipped over, I apply the Curl Shaper & hair spray gel ... And I let it air dry once I've put it in the style I want (usually the top half pulled back) ...
